Here at Highland Youth Garden, we offer a diverse learning environment for children by giving them the opportunity to grow their own food in a hands-on setting. Check out some of our classes, clubs, experiences, festivals, and other programs below.

Garden Classes & Field Trips
Are you a school, recreation center, after-school club, household, or other youth-centered space in the Hilltop? Join us in the garden for hands-on, experience-based classes and field trips.
We serve over 350 youth in the Hilltop area, join us by taking a look at our menu of Garden Experiences and book yours today!
YOUTH PROGRAMS
Garden Club
Now offering Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter Sessions! Hilltop students: join us for garden-themed activities, games, and fun in the garden. Kindergarten through 6th grade students who live or go to school on the Hilltop are eligible to sign up. Only 15 students are accepted into each session. Program is free, but registration is required.
Green Teens
Green Teens is a 9-week long, paid summer program for Hilltop teens ages 14-19. Youth who join the Green Teen crew are in for a life-changing summer: they work hard in the garden, gain essential job & life skills, learn all about growing and cooking food, engage in food justice issues, and help run the Garden Market.
Summer Camp
Sign your child up for our FREE Garden Summer Camp. It is a week long, all day camp being offered right at the garden for children ages 6-13 living in the Hilltop and Franklinton area. It will run from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. Snacks and lunch will be provided, free of cost as well.
Registration for our 2026 Summer Camp begins in the beginning of March.
COMMUNITY EVENTS
Garden Markets
Come pick up free fresh fruits and vegetables, straight from the garden during our peak growing season (May - October). Donations are welcome but never required. All are welcome, no registration required.
2026 HYG Garden Market Schedule
Days*: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
Time: 3:00pm - 4:30pm
*We will also have gardener-assisted U-Pick on select Saturdays!
Community Dinners
Community Dinners have moved to the 1st Wednesdays of the month.
All dinners are held from 4:30pm to 5:30pm at the Harvest Table (weather permitting) which is located at the Main Lot of Highland Youth Garden.
Dates: May 6th, June 3rd, July 1st, August 5th, September 2nd and October 7th
Time: 4:30pm - 5:30pm

Garden Festivals
We host seasonal Garden Festivals in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Festivals feature a variety of garden-themed crafts, activities, games, and more for all ages. Attendance is always 100% free, as are all games, activities, crafts, and food during festivals.

Time: All of our Festivals are held on a Friday from 3:30pm - 5:30pm
Backyard Garden Program
Each year, we install 10 new Family Garden beds every spring, providing Hilltop families with a backyard gardening kit, complete with everything they need to grow a thriving garden. Kit includes the raised bed, soil, plants, and additional gardening supplies. We also offer both virtual and on-site supportive classes & workshops during the growing season.
Applications open in March and installations begin in April.
Public Garden Tours
Want to learn more about Highland Youth Garden? Swing by for a Public Garden Tour. Tours include a full overview of what we do to Grow Minds, Grow Food, and Grow Community right here in the Hilltop. All are welcome, registration is not required but encouraged.
