About Green Teens

Green Teens is a paid, summer work program at Highland Youth Garden for youth in the Hilltop area ages 14-19. Youth who live or go to school in Hilltop are encouraged to apply by the April 26th deadline!

When?

Our Green Teens program will run for 9 weeks during the summer of 2023 starting on Tuesday, June 13th. Our last day will be Saturday, August 12th. Some teens will be invited to continue working with us during the school year.

In the summer, Green Teens work a total of 20 hours a week on the following schedule:

  • Tuesdays, 8am-1pm

  • Wednesdays, 2pm - 7pm

  • Thursdays, 8am - 1pm

  • Saturdays, 8am - 1pm

What Will I be doing?

Green Teens do so much during their 9 weeks at Highland Youth Garden! They:

  • Help maintain the garden by: planting, weeding, fertilizing, harvesting, using hand tools, and more

  • Facilitate and run Highland Youth Garden’s Garden Market

  • Learn about: gardening, leadership & teamwork, cooking, urban agriculture, nutrition, food justice, money management, and more

  • Have opportunities to help groups of younger children with gardening activities

  • Take tours of urban farms, markets, and other facilities around Columbus

  • Cook as a team using fresh produce from our garden

  • Engage with key guest speakers, many of whom are key linchpins in Columbus’s Urban Farming Movement
